We’re looking for a Social Media Volunteer!

Hours: 1-2 hours per week (flexible scheduling)

Commitment: Ongoing volunteer role

Location: Remote with occasional in-person attendance at events at North Hampshire and Berkshire 

About Kala The Arts

Kala The Arts is a leading voice in South Asian arts in the UK.

For over 26 years, we’ve created, produced and delivered high-quality South Asian dance projects, classes, workshops, performances, and exhibitions across Hampshire and Berkshire for 383 schools and communities, under the artistic leadership of Sushmita Pati an international artist.

We connected to 35,000 diverse audience members across our platforms in 2024, when we worked with 91 artists and recently welcomed 55,000 to our exhibition at Reading Museums partnership, Berkshire. Our work spans from grassroots engagement to international audiences, with a strong focus on artistic development, supporting artists, Health and community wellbeing.

The Opportunity

We’re looking for an enthusiastic/passionate and creative volunteer to join our small, dynamic team and help us share our vibrant South Asian arts projects with audiences across the region and beyond.

This is a fantastic opportunity to gain hands-on experience in arts marketing, build your digital portfolio, and contribute to a culturally rich organisation making a real impact in communities and breaking barriers from Arts and culture.  

Key Responsibilities

– Upload and schedule engaging content across our social media platforms (Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, YouTube and Twitter.)
– Create compelling captions and visual content for classes, performances, events, and workshops
– Help grow our online presence and drive engagement with diverse audiences
– Support with content creation during key events (particularly our flagship Diwali Light It Up festival in October)
– Monitor basic engagement metrics and share insights with the team

What We’re Looking For

– Passion for the arts, culture, and community engagement
– Familiarity with social media platforms locally and globally
– Creative eye for visual content and engaging storytelling
– Excellent written communication skills
– Reliable, organised, and able to work independently
– Basic design skills (e.g., Canva) desirable but not essential
– Interest in South Asian arts and cultural diversity welcomed
– Openminded and willing to learn and advocacy.
