Kala the Arts tours original choreographed dances, workshops and museum exhibitions as part of their rich programme of sharing South Asian arts in the South West of England and beyond.
Sapta is a creative exploration to find the beauty of music through movement, that uplifts moods and helps healing. Choreography is inspired by Surya the Sun God, in all his glory, and the artists take the audience on a magical journey to stir and invigorate the soul. The movement is based on the different ways energy flows, leading to a crescendo.
Shivoham is a collaboration between choreographer Sushmita Pati and music composer Rohan Roy. Enjoy contemporary music inspired by the aura of Shiva the dancer. Exploring the blue god, who dwells in the mountain, and his relationship with earth. His creates are introduced through Patachitra masks, a special art form of Odisha. A visual feast of colourful and elaborate costumes and flowing fabric, creating movement reflective of the Ganges river.
This piece was composed by Niraj Char and sung by Mehboob Nadeem during Covid for Kala the Arts’ Artistic Director Sushmita. Dancers Kali, Yousuf, Ratul and Sushmita celebrated the joy of light and responded through movements. They start with props and then the dance opens to light from the moon and movements taking its energy from emotions.
Our first exhibition is now open at Reading Museum, Berkshire, and available to tour to new sites in the coming years.
