On 23rd August 2025, the Royal Festival Hall Riverside Terrace at Southbank London came alive with Shivoham, an Odissi dance performance choreographed by Sushmita Pati with music composed by Rohan Roy and performed by Kala The Arts’ young ensemble. Inspired by the aura of Shiva, the cosmic dancer, the performance explored his deep connection with nature and the animal kingdom. Using Patachitra masks from Odisha, flowing fabrics evoking the Ganges, and meditative Odissi movements, the piece created a powerful narrative experience that blended tradition with contemporary imagination.
The audience responded with thunderous applause, captivated by the storytelling, rhythms, and striking visuals. For many, it was their first experience of South Asian dance, and it was received with warmth and excitement. At Kala The Arts, we are proud to bring a piece of South Asian culture to the people of London, creating new experiences, celebrating heritage, and building a sense of community through dance, music, and performance.
