Arts Day at Basingstoke Queen Mary’s College

A Celebration of Culture, Community, and the Monsoon Spirit

On Saturday 12th July, Basingstoke Queen Mary’s College opened its doors to a joyful and inclusive Arts Day at Central Studios by Kala The Arts – bringing together people of all ages to explore, create, and celebrate.

In honour of Guru Poornima and the end of term, the afternoon was filled with professional, artist-led workshops in Odissi and Kathak dance, singing, and tabla. Led by guest artists including Simiantini Mitra and Richa Shrivastava, participants had the chance to deepen their practice, share skills, and connect through movement and music.

The day culminated in a moving final performance and sharing inspired by Barsha Abhishaara: a celebration of the first rains after drought. With imagery of thunder, rainfall, passion, and rebirth, the performance captured the spirit of regeneration and joy that has long inspired human expression.

With delicious homemade snacks and chai served throughout the afternoon, the atmosphere was warm, welcoming, and full of connection. A heartfelt thank you to everyone who took part, from workshop participants to performers, organisers to audience members, for making the day such a vibrant celebration of culture and community.
